THE FILM FOUNDATION, AMC & MGM CO-HOST SCREENING OF THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
The Film Foundation participated in the Second Annual Tribeca Film Festival in New York City by co-hosting, along with AMC and MGM, the World Premiere of Sergio Leone's newly restored THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY (1966).
The film screened as part of the Martin Scorsese and The Film Foundation's Restored and Rediscovered Classics series. The Foundation, in partnership with UCLA Film and Television Archive, also screened THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (1955, d. Charles Laughton) and THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA (1954, d. Joseph L. Mankiewicz).
2003 TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL “RESTORED AND REDISCOVERED”
Included in the 2nd Annual Tribeca Film Festival were a series of films whose preservation/restoration was made possible by The Film Foundation. The program featured films selected by the festival and presented from May 6-9th under the “Restored and Rediscovered” banner. This year’s screenings included the newly restored THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY (1966, d. Sergio Leone), THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA (1954, d. Joseph Mankiewicz), and “Charles Laughton Directs THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER”, a fascinating presentation by UCLA Preservation Officer Robert Gitt, featuring rushes and outtakes from the 1955 film.
THE FILM FOUNDATION AND MIRAMAX FILMS CO-HOST SPECIAL LOS ANGELES SCREENING OF THE GANGS OF NEW YORK
On Tuesday, December 17, 2002, The Film Foundation and Miramax Films co-hosted a special Los Angeles screening of Martin Scorsese’s THE GANGS OF NEW YORK (2002) at the Directors Guild of America.
Guests were welcomed with remarks from Martin Scorsese and Harvey Weinstein. In addition, the principal cast and crew of the Academy Award ® nominated film were in attendance, including: Michael Ballhaus (Director of Cinematography), Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robbie Robertson (Executive Music Producer) and Thelma Schoonmaker (Editor).
AMC SALUTES FILM PRESERVATION AND THE FILM FOUNDATION
On November 19, 2002, American Movie Classics (AMC) and The Film Foundation hosted a cocktail reception, screening, and panel discussion of Martin Scorsese's GOODFELLAS (1990). The panel discussion included Martin Scorsese, Robert DeNiro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, and Nick Pileggi.
